| I just got my first bjd today. I noticed when I pick her up her legs spring back to a kneeling position. I have a hard time keeping her from collapsing while im trying to stand her up. I can get to to stand up after messing with her though. But I was really just wondering if it was normal for the legs to want to be in the kneeling position. Thanks so much! |

| Welcome to the forum! Ah the dreaded kicky legs. Yes, I was surprised by my first doll to that came like that. It means she's strung to tight I think. Don't worry. She'll loosen up. I don't have a lot of experience with it myself, I use stands for my dolls, but there are some very knowledgable people on this forum who will be able to help you out a lot more than me. What kind of doll did you get? |

| Thanks! ^-^ I got the Asleep Eidolon 1/3 Yara doll. I don't have a stand for mine... not yet anyway. So far I just have a couple wigs (I LOVE LeekeWorld Wigs!) and some shoes. I made her a shirt already... but she needs a bottom.... I just wish she had body blushing :/ it makes them look so much better in my opinion. ^_^ |

This is definitely normal, so don't worry. LOTS of BJDs have stubborn kicky legs and/or are difficult to stand. There are many ways to improve this problem, including restringing, sueding (with hot glue or real suede), silicone discs in the joints, wiring, etc., etc. It might also help to just play with your doll and get a feel for exactly how she does or does not want to pose. Every doll is different! Good luck getting her sorted out to your satisfaction. _________________

| ^-^ Thanks! I'm glad that it's normal. I have a feeling this is going to be an obsessive and expensive hobby, lol. I see so much I want to buy for her... not to mention... she needs a boyfriend ;p |

| I looked up how to suede, and found a tutorial using hot glue. Does using real suede work better? I didn't see a tutorial for that. In the tutorial I saw, the guy doing it didn't take his doll apart, just stretched the elastic... I didn't think that's a good thing to do... I watched a video on restringing, that didn't look to hard for me... unless its one of those things that looks easier than it is. :p I also have to put new eyelashes on... that doesn't look "hard" but it looks like it could be frustrating. ^_^ |

Hot glue is a good quick and easy fix. It does wear off pretty quickly though. You would have to pick it off and do it over again. Sueding with pigskin lasts a long time and works better but it takes awhile to do and you need all the right equipment.
Re-stringing is really easy for most dolls. The problem is if you don't have enough loose elastic leftover (it is usually in the head cap - its what is leftover after the knot) you might have to buy new elastic instead of using the stuff you already have.
Putting in new eyelashes is frustrating haha but simple. _________________ Hooray for Dollies! |

Re sueding: I can do that for you if you want. Otherwise, bring her to a meet-up and one of us can show you how.
Oh yeah, and real suede beats the heck out of hot glue, imo!
I also usually have extra elastic on me at meet-ups. ^^
Re eyelashes: Toothpicks and tacky glue (small amounts). I also have good success glueing eyelashes in with Tamiya gloss, and it dries even more clear than the tacky glue. It's a little harder to work with though. _________________ Too many dolls... |

I am in your boat, girly. I got my first girl (Ivy, a Goodreau Secret) a few weeks ago, have a Hujoo girl on her way, and still want a boyfriend for my Ivy. Hah! It's so worth it, though. _________________ ElleJay's Dolly Dreamland

My dolls have all arrived with stringing issues. In fact, I posted a very similar post to yours a while for for practically the same reason! Everyone on the board is really nice about helping new collectors learn the ins and outs of the dolls.
Congrats on your first doll! Welcome to the board! _________________ Proud Owner of:

Kicky legs, good times, good times. I'm gonna second all of those who've said, "Just play around with her," -- the standing issues are probably balance, and the more you play with different arm positions, leg position, moving the middle joint, the more you'll learn how your doll will stand. Also, if you don't want to restring her, the elastic will slowly begin to loosen up and she'll do it on her own. If you need her restrung at a meet and Zingor's not there, I can do it too. No worries! _________________ At home: Neal (AoD 1/3 Ming) ; Coram (Soom NAMu hybrid) ; Bella (DiM Silf) ; Logan (Iplehouse Aaron) ; Alyson (Dollmore Miro) ; Julian (Souldoll Killian)

Just an FYI, this thread is a year old. This forum is not very active so old threads can still be found on the first page. _________________ Too many dolls... |
