I apologize if this has been discussed already, but I'm wondering, where do you bring your doll?

Does your girl or boy stay at home, or does she/he come out with you?

Right now, I really enjoy bringing her places with me, but she's always concealed. I'm so tempted to just have her out, but I don't have the courage

I'd love to hear your stories about being out and about with your dollies, so please share =]

I have taken my boys out on multiple occasions Very Happy. I tend to keep them in their case until I get to where I'm going and then they get taken out. There are times though where I have carried them out in the open. Well, Lance at least. I carted him around with me when I went to anime central this year and last year. The boys have been over to friends houses and school as well.

Most of the time they stay at home though because both my boys are SDs so they are heavy and hard to carry. Also, they seem pretty content hanging out on my bookcase.

Mine stay home unless I'm going to a meetup, or unless I plan to take photos of them somewhere. Smile

My Thanial has already been to the movies twice since I got him at the beginning of May. =] He saw Star Trek and Terminator Salvation.

I got some strange looks, but I didn't mind. It was lots of fun taking him out, and my friends that went with thought it was cute. I've taken him other places, and I really wanna take him grocery shopping...but I work at the store I shop at, and I don't wan my co-workers to bother me about it. ._.;;

I'm determined to take him out more once I finish his outfit though. I want to be able to enjoy the thing I spent so much on, not just leave him at home all alone on the shelf with my figures or in his little carrying bag... He'd be so lonely.

I only take them out to meetups or photoshoots, because then I know that's the only thing I'm focuing on. If I'm going somewhere to do something else, I don't want to always be worrying about the doll, forgetting about the doll, accidentally breaking the doll, etc. It's usually best for me to concentrate on one thing at a time. :-]

Yeah, you'll get strange looks, whether you are by yourself, or with a group of dollie folk. You get used to it after a while. Every once in a while someone will get curious and ask you about it. This presents an opportunity to share your interest with someone who might never have seen a bjd before. This is actually kind of neat, because they usually come away appreciating it and understanding that this is just like any other hobby.

Oh, and the co-workers. Some of them might shake their heads in bemusement. Mine did too at first (though they are used to my quirky hobbies), but now they look forward to my bringing someone in. In fact, they often request it. :-]

My doll only leaves the house if I am specifically planning on doing something with her. For example, my fiance and I took my doll to the beach last week so that I could take some pictures. Afterward, we took the doll home before continuing with our day.

I don't like carrying unnecessary things with me--I don't even carry a purse most of the time. Also, I worry about the safety of my doll; I'd be heartbroken if someone stole my dear Claudia. ;____;

Thats funny I think it has been the opposite for me.

When I was new in the hobby I would take them everywhere and not worry about what people were thinking. Out to dinner etc.

Now I seem to be more timid of peoples weird looks. I ususally only take them out when there is someone else there with dollies (but not necessarily meets).

So I guess I am inbetween. As long as there are other doll owners I will take a doll out in public.

On a realated note me and Digital_grrl experienced dolly prejudice once. We were out to eat at RJ Grunts in Lincoln Park and there were actually guys next to us being very rude. They didn't say anything directly to us but we could hear the comments they were making. One even pretended to throw his plate of food at us to make the other laugh.

That's so mean of them! Those are people who just don't have class.

I'm so sorry that happened to you Sad

I want to try taking my doll out soon. It would help if there were other doll owners with me, though.

The only dolls I bring out anywhere other than meet-ups are my little ones that can fit in a purse or something.

I will never forget the first time I brought my first doll out in public. I was going to a meet-up and I had him in his carrier. I had a death grip on the thing and didn't bring him out until I absolutely had to, lol. I was terrified of something happening to him.
Two and a half years later I still get nervous bringing them anywhere. Especially the more limited ones. Also, I hate when they get dirty and that's another reason to not bring them out.

When I was in college I would take one out and about with me sometimes, carrying whichever one in my arms. I got a lot of weird looks and comments and in fact some backlash. The most common phrase thrown at me was, usually said in a snotty tone, "Why do you have a DOLL?" And my response was always, "Why not?"

It was annoying but I eventually got over it. Nowadays I don't have anyplace to take them to so they stay home.

Depending on the doll, I can answer all 3 equal. Rhiannon is very much taken out but she is concealed out of my pure fear something will happen to her. Adam pretty much stays at home cause I don't like others looking at him since his fall. Simi is pretty much stay at home cause her tiny fingers scare me, along with Maurya and Sorcha. Shayla I'll take out but usually she'll be wrapped in a blanket. Cait and Celeste are 50/50 depending on where I'm going.

Although even with all that said huge meets I drag all of them with me.

I usually only take them out at meetups or for photoshoots. I get self consioud about being a grown woman playing with dolls. Embarassed

However, I've occassionally used my 6 year old niece as an excuse to bring them out. She loves my dolls, and she's so respectful of how fragile they are. She totally dotes on them and she's super protective. She was actually afraid to hold my yugiri when we went out to hobby lobby once. And I don't get weird looks if I'm a grown woman with a doll AND a little girl.

I know, I should get over this. >__<

If I go on vacation, mine stay hidden in a backpack until I get to the room. I'd love to take them out more publicly but...
