I just looked at my profile on DoA today and saw that I joined May 23, 2005. I think the longer I'm in the hobby the more I take "breaks" from being as interested in them but I seem to always come back and gain interest again.

I went on a bit of a hiatus for a while but now I've purchased a MiniDD and I'm buying clothes and accessories like crazy for my Unoa Mocha.

Does anyone else have similar experience with being in the hobby and having ebbing interest in it?

I've been collecting BJDs since 2006, but I knew about them for about a year and a half before getting my first.

Truthfully, I would dearly love to take a break from this hobby. I have been rather disillusioned about many aspects of the BJD world since some ugly drama erupted a couple years ago. I kinda feel stuck, though, because right now a lot of people count on me for various reasons, and I've made several very good friends in this hobby, too. Not to mention, this hobby is expensive!! I can't even count the number of times I've wished I could just make a clean break, but right now it's impossible. I think my need to acquire more dolls has definitely slowed, however.

I fade in and out because I have other hobbies and interests. Those give me the breaks I need. The expense of BJDs does make it hard for this to be a primary hobby. I get disgusted at the cost and work on my other hobbies for awhile.

I bought my first BJD in 2005. I've known about them from the beginning since I was involved in collecting other Japanese dolls and 1/6th scale articulated dolls. I did avoid DOA for a long time by choice and only joined in to take advantage of the good deals to be had at the MP.

I've been in the hobby since March 2006.

I take breaks too, as evidenced by my long absences. Like greeniebone I get disillusioned by some aspects of the bjd community. I'm easily riled and protective of my friends. I was really hurt when DoA closed the artist subforum and had to take an absence at that time. I've learned not to enter debates, not to judge people in threads, some people are too sensitive, and I'm not always as articulate as I could be. I may read threads where people are pissed and gripping at each other, but I don't enter the discussions, that's not a part of this hobby that I like.

I usually go to DoA to look in the marketplace, look at the news and to do research on new dolls I may be getting. I rarely post pictures, but if I do, I no longer care how many replies I get. I use to go to DoA several times a day and check my gallery posts for replies all the time.

When I do take breaks I'm always annoyed that I missed so and so doll, LOL and then go on a mad hunt for it. I'm a bit fickle with my dolls, if I can't find the right one for a character the doll goes out and I'll have this endless cycling of dolls until I find the perfect one.

I ordered my first doll in November 06, and had known about them since Acen 06 (so like May perhaps?). I take long breaks from buying and then go on sprees every now and then. I never quit the forums though. Sometimes I will take short breaks from them, but never more than a week it seems.

I got my first doll at Acen in 2006 <3 I'd been in love with them since 2004 but couldn't justify the price.

I tend to go on forum hiatus' but usually don't take too much of a break from the hobby. Sometimes I like to just work on my own dolls without having to keep up with things online... and as much as I take breaks from the forums, I do check PMs when I get them ^^

1 year on the 20th when my eyes (first part in stock) were ordered.
I knew about them for 3-4 year prior, but became interested in them about a week or 2 before my first order.

I became interested in BJDs around Christmas 09 and ordered my first doll, Souldoll Ahee, in January. I just got my second doll, LF Ante, two weeks ago. I guess I have taken the attitude that quantity will not be my major focus with this hobby. I do plan on buying 2 or 3 more dolls and enjoy viewing the dolls on line and at the 2 meet-ups I've attended. I've met, on line and in person, very helpful people who have answered my questions kindly and thoroughly. One thing I truly enjoy, about my dolls, is they require nothing from me. They look beautiful and behave extremely well. I work 10+ totally hectic hours a day and enjoy coming home to see them sitting on my piano, their faces smiling and content, just the way I left them in the wee hours of the morning. Yep, no stress. I search for outfits and accessories which require no rush...no deadlines...no worries. This is a good, stress-free hobby for me. Smile

I more or less followed Zingor into the hobby, but didn't get my own doll until a year later in November 2007. The excitement of it kept me pretty intent on the forums for quite some time. I relentlessly viewed the galleries and participated in some of the DIY forums on DoA. I knew better than to get involved in any heated discussions (it's a hobby afterall), and always do my best to make positive comments whenever I can.

I enjoy so many aspects of this hobby - the creativity, the storytelling, the photography, games and contests, etc., but especially meeting so many nice, like-minded people. It's been great fun. Like all things though, some burnout does creep in, and other things roll to the forefront. Although I try to keep up with the photo galleries on our local forums, I barely go to DoA anymore. And that darn Real Life has kept me from doing much more than even that lately!

Meeting up with my sister a few weeks ago really gave me the bug again and now that I have a few major RL things out of the way, I can start to play again. :-] But yesterday, when I walked into my doll room and saw what a mess it was, I got intimidated, shut the door, and vowed to tackle it later. Embarassed Tomorrow is another day!
